Real Thoughts

Usually when I write I have sort of themed posts; something I have been thinking of for a while, and decide to write about. Today I just want to share some random real thoughts I have been having lately.

1. Two has got to be the most interesting age to watch unfold. I'm not talking about the kid, I'm talking about kids parents. I've watched at least a dozen times since my child turned two, parents give in to their children after fit throwing a whining. Not to say I've never done this, but I like to think that I'm the boss of my kid, not the other way around.

2. I watched today as my son imitated me in his speech and demeanor after I got annoyed with my husband and bickered at him. It hit me then that it's not in really big things that you mess up as a parent, but in the little, everyday things. I think kids can especially get screwed up when we don't treat our spouse with charity. This is where I fail as an example to my children and a wife to my husband. I'm quick to snap. Must pray harder.

3. I met a really great group of Catholic women this week (the Lord gaveth!). They go out once a month for a "Mommy's night out". Of course it has to be on a Tuesday, the day my husband has night school. Did I mention how much I hate my husband going to night school. I hate my husband going to night school.

4. We are trying to change the way we eat around here. It's overwhelming thinking of all the changes that need to be made. I bought a Vitamix thinking it would help us eat more whole foods. I had to have it in red, so I have to wait ten days for it to get here. It's been a loooong ten days.

5. Every night I go to bed feeling a little guilty about what I fed my son for the day. So many people say, "only feed him healthy foods and don't worry about his weight" and others say, "just feed him whatever will put the weight on him (i.e. sugary foods). I have been dealing with this issue for a year and a half now and I am worn out. Can you hook a two year old up to a feeding tube?

6. Miss Belle is already crawling (well, army crawling) and can get into everything. Where did my few months of peace and immobility go? 5 month olds are not supposed to crawl.

7. I'm thinking we, as a family, may need to start going to The Latin Mass. In these times of trial and change, I don't know how much more liturgical abuse and lack of community I can take. I find it funny that all these Novus Ordo churches (for those who aren't Catholic, those are churches who use the new mass, not the Latin) are so focused on community, but when I want real community and real friendships I need to go to a Latin Mass where the entire focus is solely on Christ. Valerie, if you are reading this, you were right.

8. We have been waiting for Peanut to start talking for quite some time. Now that he has, I'm not sure I like it. I told him we would go to the park today when his daddy got home. As soon as my husband walked in the door I had to listen to "Park, Park Park, Park, Park" for 30 minutes straight. I guess God wants me to have more patience. I think they should use two year olds for torture interrogation methods.

  1. Great post, Drea! :) I am so with you on 2! I lose my temper very quickly! However, I do think it's good for children to see their parents resolving conflicts as long as the conflict remains charitable and respectful.

I'm so happy that you are finding some new friends! God always provides! :) Also, my husband is in night school too! He is getting his MBA, and right now he has classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays until 9 pm. Sigh.

So is the vitamix different than a regular blender? And what do you plan to use it for?Just curious! I'm always looking for new ideas.

I have also been trying to feed my kids better! I have been really watching their sugar intake lately, because there is added sugar in practically everything that I wasn't even noticing! Also, Avery is a horrible eater! She is the tiniest little girl (less than 10th percentile), and she is a picky eater. Lucy on the other hand will eat absolutely everything we give her! It's a dream!

My kids also were mobile very early, but I have to say that I like it that way because they always seem more content when they can reach the toys they want. :)

  2. Meghan: I agree with you about kids seeing conflict and resolution with their parents. I just tend to not speak in a very nice tone during the conflict part. My husband is getting his MBA too! He is gone until 10pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 3 days a week next semester!

The vitamix is different than a regular blender. You can make smoothies, soups, breads, grind grains, ice cream, and a ton of other stuff in it. It's pretty awesome. Expensive, we had to save for it, but everyone i know who has one has kept it FOREVER. Peanut is also a HORRIBLE eater. It's so draining. He is in the 5th percentile.

I think you are right on the mobility thing. It is nice putting Miss Belle down and her just being able to play. I just have to keep a close eye on what's on the floor!

P.S. Your blog has been such a blessing for me recently. Thank you for being so real and honest about your period of abstinence. Makes me feel like I'm not the only "bad guy" out there!

  3. I've been thinking similar things re mass and abuse and attending something more traddy. You might enjoy looking at my new blog: http://extra-ordinarymonkeys.blogspot.com/

I hope it makes you laugh at the ridiculousness and not cause you to feel depressed :)

  4. Some great points here. Regarding # 7, I only wish there were a place for me to go, apart from Novus Ordo. It is rough over here, to say the least!

Regarding #8, I know just what you mean! You want them to talk and then when they start they just will not stop! LOL

  5. Drea,
Thanks for reading my blog! It has honestly been so theraputic for me to get my thoughts out there and know that the people reading it, like you, know how I feel and don't think we are nuts.
Interesting about the Vitamix. I'll have to check it out!
Ugh about husbands in class. I keep reminding myself that it is for the betterment of our family, but around 4 o'clock on class days, I look at the time and feel like the day is dragging along.
I will keep you in my prayers!

  6. O my, do I like number eight i also really like numbers six and seven even though I don't understand or know any Latin, I'm currently learning Gaelic, I have been to a Latin mass with my dad and i thoroughly, I hopes that is the right spelling, enjoyed it. I hope I can learn Latin someday so I am able to go to a Latin mass and understand what they are saying. I thought that six was just so cute!! =) I don't live with any two-year-olds but i do live with a little sister who can be very convincing, annoying, when she wants something it is very trying but, you learn how to be patient from it. Also, do you know why little children have such a good memory when they're little but as they get older they don't remember the stuff from when they were little? I hope that made sense to you because that is the best I can word what I am trying to ask.
